Dear Emmanuel Family,
Thank you for your continued feedback and support this school year. This week we navigated through two (2) school day closings and one (1) additional delay. We have several comments in regard to inclement weather and school policy and procedures at the bottom under “Inclement Weather”.

Emergency Closing of School
School closings and delays will be communicated through multiple avenues: One Call Now, Facebook, and television (TV 2 WDTN, TV 7 WHIO). If no message is aired, then one can assume school is on a regular schedule.
If you depend upon public school busing, you need to monitor your resident district’s closing/delay status which may differ with that of ECA. If ECA is open and your public school district is closed, and you are unable to secure alternative transportation, your child will receive an excused absence.
Calamity closings may vary from district to district. Therefore, it is important that parents and students monitor the status of both ECA and their district of residence, especially if relying on public school busing.
Calamity days may be determined to be converted and shifted for a day of REMOTE LEARNING. Extended closures due to cold temperatures or inclement weather will shift students and teachers to REMOTE LEARNING, but will be announced in advance of that event. (For example, if we have used several calamity days, an announcement may be made that the next inclement weather day will be used as a REMOTE LEARNING day.)
Notes/Procedures
The Emmanuel family extends through several counties and over 10 school districts. Severe weather days can cause delays or closures and many schools are moving to remote learning for these situtations. Our objective is to continue to pursue academic advancement in a learning environment for our students which has been affected by the COVID pandemic. Emmanuel will continue to have allowances for traditional “snow day” in future calendar years but, for this year, our focus must be on striving to further our students academically.
GOAL: To continue our effort to bring our 5th - 12th Grades back into the school setting full-time, while providing remote learning during inclement weather closings.
At this time, inclement weather days will be dealt with in the following manner:
For days that weather closes ECA, we will automatically move to a Remote Learning Day
TK - 6th grade remote learning days begin at 8:00AM and end at 11:00AM
7th - 12th grade remote learning days are from 8:00AM - 3:10PM
Two-hour delays will be used as needed and may also transition into a remote learning day if we move into closure
We will take into consideration the surrounding district’s decisions, as we know these decisions are based on road conditions, and affect travel and busing.
Whenever possible, we will announce these decisions the night before, although we know that this not always possible
We will continue to make every effort to make a decision that positively affects our ECA population as a whole.
Getting our students back into the building is a priority, while balancing consideration of morning travel conditions, what morning road conditions look like.
Based on survey feedback:
There is concern about road conditions and cold temperatures alike, but also a common thought that remote schooling should be used as an option if possible
Advanced communication is preferred by parents in regard to a remote school day, so ECA will do our best to do that
We are recommending that teachers and students are prepared for remote learning in the event of a cancellation.
