Seniors and Parents,
First, I want to thank the group of seniors that met with me last Thursday, April 2nd. I have an additional meeting scheduled with the seniors on Thursday, April 9th at 2:00PM via Google Hangout.
I want to express that I feel for every senior and what you are experiencing right now, but encourage you to not feel sorry for yourself or resent your position. Let’s all try to figure out how to make the best of the situation. Remember, we are walking in a circumstance that is creating history by the moment that will be talked about for years to come. Let’s make a positive impact moving forward.
The main thing that we want to make sure everyone understands is that we continue to talk and discuss deadlines on dates for events that are important to us all.
At the moment and in regard to dates, we have prioritized the following:
A decision and input on the prom (by April 17)
A decision and input about what to do with senior trip (by April 17)
A decision about Commencement (by April 28)
As I spoke with the seniors last week, I encouraged them to continue working through the academic pieces. No matter what happens with the senior trip, we want our seniors to finish coursework by May 8th, just as we had previously planned. The task that I gave to the seniors was to begin talking about other options for a senior trip at a later time this summer or the consideration to just cancel. In considering prom, I encouraged them to think out of the box and come up with a great plan for a summer prom.
In regards to graduation requirements, Alicia Kidder continues to work through graduation requirements and is communicating with seniors. We are on track!
We have reached out to First Christian and they still have our Commencement on the schedule. However, given the circumstance, we know that this may change. Mrs. Kidder is sending out a “Senior Recognition Survey” which is due April 17. There will be a special section on this survey for parent and student ideas and wishes for our Commencement ceremony. Please fill out this survey and provide valuable input needed.
The consideration of our upcoming events are primarily based on what decisions our President and Governor make with return to work, travel and meetings. We desire the best memories for our seniors and desire your input as we move forward. Our commitment to them will not cancel or reschedule without your input.
Please fill our the “Senior Recognition Survey” as soon as you receive it. We look forward to talking with you soon. We love and appreciate you all.
