April 23 Message from Athletic Director Rick Herring

Hello ECA Families,

I am praying for every one of your families as we go through this time of uncertainty. Hopefully, everyone can stay busy and can spend time with your families. We have hope in a God that is bigger than we can ever imagine. As we keep our focus on Him, He will give us peace and joy. (Romans 15:13)

All athletes and parents in grade 6 through 11 should have received an email with a digital form attached labeled “Athletic Commitment Form” for the 2020/2021 school year. This is the process the Athletic Department uses to determine which sports we will be able to offer, set our annual budget, and prepare schedules. Thank you to the families that have submitted this form. If you have not submitted this form you will be receiving a reminder email soon to please do so by April 24th. Thank you for your help with this information.

We are still working on the ECA Summer Athletic Camp brochure. In light of Governor DeWine’s announcement yesterday, we need to make some adjustments. Once the brochure is ready to send out we will get it to you.

Summer Baseball/Softball has been cancelled for the summer. If you have any further questions, please contact Shaun Lisle via email at lisle_s@yahoo.com.

I hope to have track, baseball and spirit store items in from Just Inks by the end of this week. Once I have your items in hand, I will make arrangements to get it to you.

SPRING SPORTS UPDATE FROM OHSAA:

The OHSAA sent out an email on Monday evening stating the following:

  • Today’s announcement by Governor DeWine to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year will now result in the cancellation of OHSAA-sponsored spring sports seasons including tournaments.

MOVING FORWARD:

  • I want to stress the “uncertainties”, but as we now look into the summer and the fall, we will communicate plans/adjustments to our regulations as uncertainties become realities. I want to assure you that we are looking at everything, such as:

  1. Eligibility Concerns for Fall Season

  2. Physicals- Difficulty of getting them

  3. Treating and Disinfecting of artificial surfaces

  • We will pass along guidance and regulation adjustments as uncertainties become better understood.

  • This is a reminder the current no-contact period remains in effect at least through May 3. Any adjustments/extensions to this will be communicated in advance of that date. Ninety-four percent of current respondents to Friday’s survey of member school administrators would expect this to be extended to June 1.

I know this is a tough time for all our coaches, athletes, and especially for our senior athletes. As much as I wish things were different right now, we need to have hope and faith that God is in control. I am currently working on a plan to refund all spring athletic fees back to the athletes that did pay on time. More information to come soon on the spring athletic fees.

If you have a need that arises, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am leading the Care Team and am happy to assist our families. You can contact me by email at rherring@ecaoh.com or by cell at 937-631-37001.

Please continue to pray for our administration as they make decisions for our school during this time. Also remember to check on neighbors, friends and family members to see if you or your children can be of assistance. Continue to let the love of Jesus shine through you.

GO LIONS!!!

Rick Herring
Athletic Director
