March 25 Update from Athletic Director Rick Herring

Hello ECA Families,

I hope each and your families are doing well during this rough time. I just want to give you some encouragement that our God is stronger than this virus (Psalm 91:10) ! Hopefully everyone is taking time out of their day to check on a neighbor, friend, or family member to see if there is anything you can do to help out. This is a great opportunity to let your light shine and let people see Jesus in you.

I wanted to reach out and give everyone an update on where we are at right now with Athletics. All Spring Sports have been suspended until we plan to go back to school on April 6th. During this time it is a no contact period for coaches meaning that coaches can not practice or do any work outs of any kind with their athletes. I do encourage our coaches to communicate with our athletes to check up on them, give them encouragement, and to give them work outs that they can do on their own at home. Athletes I encourage you to do these work outs that your coaches are sending to you. As an Athlete you have worked hard to get in shape the first three weeks of the season and would like to see you continue to make yourself better and stronger during this time that we are home. The OHSAA's plan is for us to continue playing games and meets on April 11th. This will give teams the opportunity to practice together before they start completion.

On Thursday March 19th, Jerry Snodgrass the Executive director of the OHSAA had a press conference for all the OHSAA Member schools to watch as he discussed the plans for Spring Sports. In this press conference he stated that the current plan is still in effect and that there was not any changes at that time. The OHSAA is evaluating the situation on a daily basis. As of today (March 25th) there has not been any changes to that plan. Mr. Snodgrass also said that the decision on how Spring sports will move forward is also dependent on what Governor DeWine decides to do with how we will finish the school year academically.

The ECA summer baseball and softball program is also suspended as of right now through April 6th. Once we get some more direction from Governor DeWine and have a plan in place for summer baseball and softball we will let you know. If you have any questions on summer baseball and softball please contact Shaun Lisle via email. ( lisle_s@yahoo.com )

With that being said, I have attached the letter that was sent to us for you to read at your convenience. If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. ECA has started a care team as we want to be able to help anyone in need during this time. We have been able to help a family with a need they had for a student of ours. If you come across anyone in need we want to help so as you check on your friends, family members, or your neighbors keep the ECA Care team in mind. You can send needs to me via email ( rherring@ecaoh.com ) or call me on my cell (937-631-3701). I am praying that we will be back to school soon. I am also praying that God would give us all patience and wisdom as we go through this unusual time. Please continue to keep our administration in prayer as they make decisions for our school during this time.

Thank you,

Rick Herring
Athletic Director
