May 8 Parent Communication from Dan Moore

Dear Parents,

Even though the weather today feels a little more like April, it is already May 8, and more importantly for our students and families is that we only have ONE MORE WEEK!

I want to give a special shout out to all the moms out there: Happy Mothers Day!. You are appreciated, valued and loved.

This past week’s pick up and drop off went very well. As a reminder, we have two pick up / drop off dates left, as well as a process for 7 - 12 Grade to clear their lockers, drop off books, and return athletic uniforms. That information is explained in detail below. Most of the additional information below was covered last week, but each section may have small updates.

The following items will be covered in this communication:

  • Awards / End of Year Recognitions / Graduations

  • Academic Announcements

  • Athletic Announcements

  • Final instructions for returning ECA books, assignments, uniforms, etc.

  • Building hours for May

Dan Moore, Building Principal

AWARDS/END OF YEAR RECOGNITION/GRADUATION

We will not be holding in person awards ceremonies, or parties for our students this year given the restrictions we are under. Graduation/Commencement plans are being finalized and will be communicated once they are complete.

ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thank you to students, parents and our teachers. I know that we have all had struggles to balance the workload, expectations and the learning process. Below are specifics on end dates, late work, final due dates, and grades.

“Wrapping Up”:

  • May 8

    • Seniors will be finishing up academic work and will complete their program

    • Fifth and Sixth grade students will complete their academic work

  • May 15

    • Assignments given by all other grades will be geared towards completion on May 15 (Grades TK - 4 and Grades 7 - 11)

  • May 18 - 21

    • Final week to turn in work, missing work, books and pick up belongings

    • Please see the drop off / pick up schedule

Late Work: We have extended beyond our normal late work policies to allow grace to students who are working to complete assignments.

Missing Assignments: Students will have until May 21 to complete and turn in assignments.

No Final Exams: 7 - 12 Grade will not have final exams.

FINAL GRADES/ASSESSMENTS:

From a general perspective, teachers have “lightened” grading criteria and remained flexible

We will be assigning final grades for the fourth quarter.

  • TK - 2nd Grade: Final assessments/reports will reflect the learning process as well as effort. The goal of the final report is to communicate where student strengths and deficiencies currently lie.

  • 3rd - 12th Grade: Our plan will allow for a fair and equitable fourth quarter grade and subsequent semester grade. The teaching and administration team are finalizing a standard process although, ultimately, teachers will exercise their professional judgement to responsibly assign the 4th Quarter final and semester grades in conjunction with school administration.

College Credit Plus Classes: Follow the college policies for CCP classes

Report Cards: June 5, 2020

2020/21 SCHOOL YEAR

It is our desire that we would be able to return to a traditional environment as soon as possible. Emmanuel’s environment is conducive to being able to plan and work around whatever we are tasked to do by the the Ohio Department of Education. Several notes about the 20202/21 school year:

  • The 2020/21 calendar is posted on our website under “Resources”

  • There are numerous “rumors” and “talk” about what schools will do. We do know that there are many discussions going on at the state level and we hear bits and pieces, but there is nothing that is currently set in stone. Our intention is to return to the school building with our students as soon as we are permitted to do so.

  • We are building contingency plans for blended learning, building a safer and healthier school environments, and will be ready to address these issues as we move through the summer and prepare the 2020/21 school year.

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENT

The OHSAA has communicated that all facilities for use in regard to sports, camps, and or workouts will continue to be closed until June 30. This guideline will be lifted if the Governor moves up or changes the date. Once we have clearance, we will move accordingly with sports camps scheduled for July. Our sports camps brochure will be sent to families next week.
