Superintendent/Principal Communication

Dear Parents,

We have had a very positive start to the school year. We thank you for working with us through the challenges. Seeing the students walk back into the school building again was so good! Below, you will find important information regarding school procedures, Chromebooks, and our new FLEX period. Have a great first weekend off.

Blessings!

John Essig: Superintendent
Dan Moore: Building Principal

ARRIVING TO SCHOOL

  • Please remember to “pre-screen” at home

    • Those with a fever or symptoms must stay home: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, loss of smell or taste, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.

  • If you are arriving in the car drop off line, have your student remain in your car until after the temperature scan and symptom assessment.

  • Anyone who has a fever of greater than 100 degrees will not be permitted to enter the building. We will re-attempt up to four time over the course of several minutes.

ATHLETICS AND SPECTATOR UPDATE

On August 19, 2020, a new order was issued from the Governor’s office. In short, the order has permitted interscholastic sports to continue and for competition to be permitted between schools for contact and for non-contact sports. The order limits spectators at venues to 15% of capacity and requires athletic departments to develop a protocol and safety measures for each venue.

Due to this order, there will not be “family passes” or walk-in admission to our home games or our away games. Unfortunately, this includes admission for our students. Unless a student is included on a pass list for a game via request from an athlete, we are unable to permit admission. We are working for a way to provide opportunities for our students to support and attend games in the future when possible.

Families that have students involved with the sports will have the ability to reserve a set amount of tickets at ECA and then no more than (2) people to opponent venues. Each opponent may have different requirements. Although this is far from ideal, we will continue to work through the obstacles and will update our ECA family. We are looking toward some future opportunities to “stream” some of our live events.

CHROMEBOOK SAFETY

Chromebooks and 1:1 Technology are new for everyone at Emmanuel this year. Let us know how it has been going for you and your family. We value your feedback!

You might be wondering how we are protecting the Chromebooks at school and at home. We deployed a software security application called Securly Thursday evening. We chose this application because it monitors and filters ALL Chromebook activity. It maximizes safety and security wherever the Chromebook might travel albeit, home, school, or otherwise.

Even thought Securly is deployed, nothing is perfect. We encourage you to review web history, installed applications, social media, etc. on the Chromebooks. Please let us know if you ever suspect issues or find inappropriate activity on our Chromebook. And on that note, we encourage the same review for all your student’s personal devices as well. Parental involvement and relevant conversations are key to responsible internet use.

  • Mathematics is an area of emphasis this year. FLEX gives math teachers additional time to work with students.

  • Provides additional time for assistance. Students who cannot stay after school have time to ask questions, make up missed work, or get extra help.

  • Offers opportunities for enrichment. Teachers can plan activities and experiences that extend the basic curriculum.
